This article suggests using educational videos made by other groups as a third party. All of the suggestions are based on how accurate the nutrition information is, how good the instruction is, and how well they fit with the child's growth. I don't get paid by any of these creators or platforms. We have included links for your convenience.

Let's face it: telling a four-year-old to "eat their greens" or reminding a seven-year-old to wash their hands for the twentieth time can feel like talking to a wall.

Many parents have told me the same problem: how do you get your kids excited about healthy habits? I work with families to help them with eating and child health.

Then I discovered what many families already know: music works where logic doesn't.

A catchy song about brushing teeth, eating vegetables, or drinking water bypasses resistance and creates genuine engagement. Videos that pair nutrition and healthy habit messaging with music, movement, and visual storytelling engage multiple areas of a child's brain simultaneously turning routine health behaviours into something kids actually want to do.

This article has 10 videos that are based on research and have music, movement, and accurate health messages. People in schools and with their families who want to keep good habits should use these tools.

Why Music is the Secret Ingredient for Healthy Habits

Teacher and children clapping in a classroom. Colorful posters say "Wash Your Hands," "Cover Cough," and "Germs Are Not for Sharing."

Before diving into specific videos, let's understand why music is so effective for teaching health behaviours.

Music Uses Many Ways to Learn

When a child learns through music, they're activating:

Auditory processing (hearing the message)

Motor coordination (moving to the beat)

Visual learning (watching the video)

Memory consolidation (rhythm aids retention)

Research shows that information paired with melody is retained significantly better than information presented alone. (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3068585/).

Resistance and anxiety are lowered by music.

For children who resist healthy habits (vegetable eating, hand washing, dental care), music creates a positive emotional association rather than a battle. The habit becomes linked with joy and play instead of parental demand.

Repetition Through Song = Habit Formation

Health habits are built through repetition. A 20-second song about handwashing that plays every time reinforces the behaviour until it becomes automatic exactly what we want for hygiene, nutrition, and self-care routines.

Pro-Tip: Don't just press play; co-engage.

Don't use these videos as passive screen time. Sing along, do the movements, and participate with your child. Your engagement amplifies the message and transforms screen time into a shared family activity that reinforces the habit.

Dad and two kids playfully mimic animals in a living room. TV displays "A is for Apple" with a cartoon. Toys scatter on the floor.

The Top 10 Evidence-Based Video Resources

Here are my family-tested, educator-approved favourites that have earned a permanent spot in our healthy habits toolkit.

1. Super Simple Songs - "The Hand Washing Song"

Toddler washing hands at a sink full of bubbles, smiling at a woman. Bathroom setting with colorful towels and a yellow rubber duck.

This is the gold standard. With clear, simple lyrics and visuals that show exactly how to scrub between fingers and under nails, it makes a non-negotiable habit incredibly fun. It was a lifesaver during potty-training days and remains a kitchen-sink staple.

  • Focus: Hygiene, Routine, step-by-step instruction

  • Best For: Toddlers & Preschoolers (ages 2-5)

Why It Works: Clear visuals demonstrate exactly how to wash hands properly (20 seconds, between fingers, under nails). The simple lyrics and repetitive structure make it easy for young children to remember and follow independently.

Health Connection: Proper handwashing is one of the most effective ways to prevent illness transmission in young children.

2. GoNoodle - "Awesome Rainbows" (from the "Flow" Channel)

A young girl stands on a mat with hands on her chest, eyes closed, surrounded by a rainbow. Soft lighting, cozy room, calm atmosphere.

GoNoodle is a powerhouse for combining movement with mindfulness. "Awesome Rainbows" is a deep-breathing exercise set to calming music and visuals. It teaches kids to recognise big emotions and use breath as a tool to self-regulate—a habit as crucial as any physical one.

  • Focus: Mindfulness, Emotional Regulation

  • Best For: Kids 5-10

3. StoryBots - "How Does the Body Fight a Cold?"

A boy in a yellow shirt smiles while holding a tablet displaying "Immune System Defense!" Colorful cartoon germs and cells appear behind.

The StoryBots make complex biology hilariously accessible. This episode, told through a funky spy-thriller musical number, explains immune cells and healthy practices (like rest and hydration) to stay well. It answers the "why" behind my nagging, which kids deeply appreciate.

  • Focus: Body Science, Immune Health

  • Best For: School-Age Kids (5+)

4. The Wiggles - "Fruit Salad"

Children laughing and clapping with bowls of fruit on a table. Colorful fruit characters and musical notes decorate the backdrop.

A classic for a reason! This upbeat, colourful song celebrates fresh fruit in the most joyful way. It's impossible not to bounce along. I've used this as the perfect pre-snack hype video—by the time the song ends, my kids are already asking for apple slices or berries.

  • Focus: Nutrition, Enjoying Fruits

  • Best For: Toddlers & Preschoolers

  • Link: Watch on YouTube

5. Cosmic Kids Yoga - "Squish the Fish" Adventure

Girl in pink shirt practices yoga on a blue mat, posing underwater with colorful fish and coral, exuding tranquility.

Not a traditional song, but Jaime weaves movement and story with a wonderful, immersive soundtrack. This aquatic adventure guides kids through yoga poses, teaching strength, flexibility, and following instructions—all habits that build body awareness and calm focus.

6. Danny Go! - "Fire & Ice Freeze Dance"

Children in colorful clothes jumping joyfully indoors on a wooden floor. Bright room with bookshelves and framed pictures in the background.

We just recently found Danny Go! and it's getting my whole family moving. His upbeat dance songs, like this freeze dance game, make people laugh and get their hearts racing. It changes what "exercise" means to mean pure, unrestricted play, which is a great habit to keep up for life.

  • Focus: Cardiovascular Exercise, Gross Motor Skills

  • Best For: Energetic Kids 4-9

7. Sesame Street - "Try It Again" with Janelle Monáe

Mom and son smiling at a dining table. Boy eats broccoli joyfully, surrounded by colorful veggies. Kitchen in background with natural light.

This catchy pop song delivers a powerful message about perseverance and a growth mindset. Singing about trying new foods, new skills, or bouncing back from a mistake builds mental resilience. We quote it often: "You gotta try, try, try again!"

  • Focus: Growth Mindset, Trying New Foods

  • Best For: All Ages

8. Koo Koo Kanga Roo - "Awesome Rainbows" (Different from GoNoodle!)

Children in colorful costumes celebrate joyfully at a party, with confetti in the air and vibrant lights in the background.

Yes, a second entry with the same name! Koo Koo's version is a synth-pop anthem about celebrating what makes you unique. Their bizarre, high-energy Videos for Teaching Kids Healthy Habits Through Music promote self-acceptance and confidence—the foundation of all healthy choices.

9. Blippi - "Visiting the Dentist" Musical Episode

Dentist in blue scrubs shows a tooth model to a smiling boy in a dental chair. Colorful mural and dental posters in the background.

While Blippi's energy is… potent, his educational field trips are top-notch. In this episode, he tours a dentist's office with a friendly, musical approach, demystifying tools and the check-up process. It helped erase my daughter's dental anxiety before her first visit.

  • Focus: Dental Health, Overcoming Fears

  • Best For: Preschoolers

10. Your Own Family's "Hydration Remix"

Family of four laughs together in a kitchen, holding glasses of water. Warm lighting, wooden cabinets create a cozy atmosphere.

This is my favourite pro tip: make your own! Take a simple, well-known tune ("Twinkle Twinkle," "Row Your Boat") and write silly lyrics about drinking water. " Sip, sip, sip your glass, drink it down so faaast…" My kids helped create ours, and because it's theirs, they respond to it instantly. It's the most personalised and effective of all Videos for Teaching Kids Healthy Habits Through Music even if it only exists in your kitchen.

Making the Most of Musical Learning

A smiling woman and boy slice fruit, watched by a tablet displaying "Fruit Fun Song!" in a cozy kitchen. Bowls of fruit nearby.

Remember, these videos are launchpads. After watching, talk about it. Ask, "What was your favourite part of the handwashing song?" or "Can we breathe like the rainbow today when you feel frustrated?"

Pair the video with a related activity. After a nutrition song, make a "fruit salad" together. Following a mindfulness video, create a calm-down corner with a glitter jar. The habit forms in the action that follows the song.
